Raipur’s Department of Archaeology and Archives has announced a photo exhibition aimed at familiarising people with the rich ancient heritage of their state. Taking place on May 18 and 19, the exhibition will be held at the art gallery located within the Ghasidas Museum in the capital city. The showcased images will range from 40 to 150 years old, capturing glimpses of the past.

In conjunction with International Museum Day on May 18, the International Council of Museums sparked discussions on various museum-related topics, aiming to raise public awareness. The council emphasised the importance of museums in preserving cultural treasures and facilitating educational experiences for visitors.

An official release also revealed that the International Jain Organization plans to honour the officers and staff of the museum. The exhibition will prominently display photographs by renowned photographers such as J. D. Wegler (1873-74), A. H. Longhurst (1909-10), M.G. Dixit (1955), Donald M. Stadtner (1979-80), Michael W. Master, M.A., and Dhaki and Krishnadev (1983). Additionally, the expo will include images of the present-day Mahant Ghasidas Memorial Museum building taken in 1953, along with prominent monuments spanning from the 3rd century BC to the 15th century AD.

To foster a sense of heritage awareness among school students visiting the museum, an impromptu quiz competition is scheduled for May 18. Following their museum visit, the children will be presented with ten questions related to the Mahant Ghasidas Memorial Museum Raipur and the exhibited artefacts. Prizes will be awarded to the winners, adding an element of excitement to the educational experience.
