Rohit Panda, a talented student from Bhilai, Chhattisgarh, has made the entire country and state proud by winning the silver medal at the 33rd International Biology Olympiad (IBO) in Yerevan, Armenia. He has achieved the remarkable feat of being the sole representative from Chhattisgarh to compete at this esteemed global platform. Rohit Panda’s exceptional skills and dedication have earned him the opportunity to represent India in the subject of Biology, making him the only student in the entire state to attain this prestigious position.
The International Biology Olympiad is a rigorous competition that comprises five levels of examinations. Participants undergo a series of challenging tests, which serve as a litmus test to select the most promising biologists from around the world. This arduous journey involves two theory papers and four practical examinations, all held to stringent criteria.
Under the organization of the Homi Bhabha Science Education Centre, Tata Institute of Fundamental Research, Mumbai, the Olympiad exams in Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Astronomy, Junior Science, and Mathematics are conducted. In India, the competition spans four levels, with students qualifying for the fifth and final level to represent their country at the International Olympiad.
Rohit Panda’s remarkable journey began with his outstanding performance at the Biology Olympiad organized by the Homi Bhabha Science Education Centre. Alongside three other talented students from different states of India, he was selected to represent the nation. After undergoing rigorous training for two weeks at the Homi Bhabha Science Education Centre, Tata Institute of Fundamental Research, Mumbai, Rohit Panda showcased his expertise at the International Biology Olympiad in Armenia. This grand event witnessed the participation of students from over 60 countries, with only the top four participants earning the privilege to compete on this global stage.
