ACI Hospital Raipur

A young man suffering from congenital rare disease of the heart has been successfully operated at the Government Heart Hospital ACI. This 26-year-old patient of Narayanpur was suffering from Abstein’s Anomaly, a congenital disease occurring in one out of 2 lakh patients. Not only this, the right ventricle of the patient’s heart was functioning only at 10 per cent. At the same time, the size of the left ventricle was also very small. Due to which the case was very complicated.

In this congenital disease, the flow of blood from the heart is not complete. Due to lack of blood, the body of the patient starts turning blue. 13% of the patients of this disease occurring in any one of 2 lakhs die immediately after birth. 18% of children die by the age of 10 and no one survives beyond the age of 25 to 28. Since the heart of this patient was working only 10 percent.

Transfused the patient’s own blood, there was no need for a pacemaker

Dr. Krishnakant Sahu told that in this operation the patient’s own blood was transfused. In the language of medical science, it is called auto transfusion. The patient had donated blood in the blood bank 15 days prior to the operation. Bovine tissue valve was used in this operation. Ebstein’s anomaly has been operated for the third consecutive time here.

What is Abstein Anomaly disease?

This is also a congenital heart disease. When the child is in the mother’s womb, the heart of the child develops in the first 6 weeks. When the development of this heart is obstructed, the heart becomes abnormal. In this disease, the tricuspid valve of the patient’s heart is not formed and the right ventricle does not develop properly and there is a hole in the upper chamber of the heart.
