Raipur’s Yashasvi qualify for national U-17 chess c’ship

Bastar boy Lavyaajyoti Routray and Raipur’s Yashasvi Upadhyay emerged as champions of the state-level U-17 chess championship organised in Durg from April 19 to 21.

Both the players qualified for the National U-17 Championship to be held in Jalandhar from May 1 based on their outstanding performance in the State championship.

Yashasvi clinched the girls’ chess championship title by securing four points out of five games. She remained unbeaten throughout the championship and won three games while two matches were declared draw.

Oas Gupta of Rajnandgaon stood second and Kanak Mankar of Durg stood third in the championship. Lavyaajyoti stood first in the boys’ category of the championship while Yashad Bambeshwar and Anil Kalholkar of Durg stood second and third, respectively.
